Your mat is actually a magic carpet that will take you to places beyond your wildest dreams. It will help you through times of worry, times of pleasure, sometimes of pain and many times of sweat.
You can take it with you all over the world or you can unroll it in your living room and still take journey around the world and the universe through the inner workings of your mind.
The center of the mind is difficult to reach while there are wild and rampant thoughts racing around your head. Yoga helps us to quiet the fluctuations, these racing thoughts, as stated in Yoga Sutra 1.2 "citta vrtti nirodhah" it teaches us the steps to get to the center of the mind, the soul, so we can clearly see what is deep inside of us and what means the most to us.
Yoga does not tell us what to think but how to think. So you're mat becomes your best friend for taking these adventures and also becomes your vehicle for discovery.
If you're using a friend's or studio mat in an emergency, I think it's a-okay. But wouldn't you like to have a trusted friend that you take with you through these journeys of life, finding joy, bliss, divinity and pleasure in all you do, as you serve the good, finding love for yourself, in turn serving the good of the world and those around you.
So go ahead and get yourself a mat, your magic carpet, and ride it on this adventure of life known as yoga.
See you on YOUR mat,
Ps: Do you see the yin and the yang in the center of the mat?! Too cool.
